Veteran Suzy Menkes of International Herald Tribune Chatting to Omer Asim
Pitti Immagine dedicates space to new names on the international creative and economic scene from emerging nations to stimulate exchange and further mutual knowledge and understanding. This Pitti W 2012 edition’s guest nation was Nigeria, in collaboration with Lagos Fashion and Design Week (LFDW). Pitti Immagine W, the prominent Trade Show in Florence hosted LFDW with Nigerian designers; Anita Quansah, Bridget Awosika, Jewel by Lisa, Lanre Da Silva Ajayi and ~ via Sudan, Omer Asim as the seasons Guest Nation. Pitti W hosts over 70 exclusive and emerging brands yearly and is dedicated to special projects. At Pitti W, you discern industry trends and discover preview collections. The goal for LFDW was to bring the designers to a platform where they were exposed to an international audience of press and key buyers, thus giving true tangible, access to African brands. The Lagos Fashion and Design Week (LFDW) vision is for local industry growth, through portals of manufacturing, trade, skill, and eventually bringing transnational spotlight/ recognition to the Nigerian fashion industry. The fashion week itself is one thing (designers get to show their body of work for that season in Lagos to local and international fashion press); international tradeshows are another.
